Our feed is designed to give balanced whole food nutrition, so that each horse's supplement program can be customized to their individual needs, preventing the common feed problems of over-supplementation and under-supplementation. Locally we recommend the Equerry's supplement line, with organic selenium for a good general all around supplement. Consult your veterinarian on how to customize your supplement program for each particular horse. We recommend Dr. Mark DePaolo DVM, if you are looking for a specialist to help you with a customized nutritional program for your horse. See the links for his nutritional services below:

INGREDIENTS
Camelina Oil and Flax Seed
Currently one of the top vegetable sources for Omega 3 Fatty Acids: Building blocks for cells and tissues of the body, actually strengthening every structure in your horse at the cellular level. Omega 3's improve tendons, muscles and even the brain, not to mention create a shiny healthy coat. Camelina is also rich in antioxidants, so while the Omega 3's build the structures of the body, the antioxidants keep them in good repair. This specialty oil would be very expensive to ad to your feed, so that it is rarely used, but by buying it in large quantities, we are able to ad it to the feed mix for much less, for top quality nutrition you can afford! The Camelina oil added to Sound Performance Feed in conjunction with Omega 3 Rich Flax Seed creates a potent and synergistic effect of outstanding body condition and mental calmness.
Why Alfalfa?
Alfalfa is considered an "ancestral plant" because it has roots that go deep down into the untouched mineral rich layers of the earth. This is one reason that alfalfa has long been used by breeders as a rich source of calcium and minerals for growing youngsters. The alfalfa pellets used in our grain are chosen for their safe level of energy producing protein and for their high value as a whole food nutrition source of vitamins and especially minerals. While other sources of alfalfa may make horses hot, ours is chosen to be consistent with our concept of "cool calories" in just the right balance with the other ingredients of our feed and is producing wonderful results in our clients horses.
Rice Bran
A very cool calorie source of vegetable fat and fiber, that builds excellent body condition without making horses hot. While rice bran is typically low in calcium, our high quality rice bran pellets, are calcium fortified to be safe for all ages and stages of horses.
Why Grass Pellets and What About Hay?
The addition of mixed grass pellets, ads a safe balance of high fiber and digestibility with the most natural nutritional source there is for horses - grass! It also ads to the diversity of whole food nutrition in the feed. So safe it can almost be fed as a complete feed and is excellent for horses who need to have their food soaked, we do recommend supplementing Sound Performance horse feed with ample grass hay or forage (pasture), as it is a highly nutritionally dense feed, and would simply be too rich to be the total diet for most horses. Additionally we recommend a minimum of 1-2 flakes of alfalfa hay per day for foals and breeding horses. 1 flake alfalfa hay per every 4 cups of feed is a good general guide for breeding horses. Soaking up beat pulp with the feed is a wonderful way to supplement older horses who can no longer chew hay or horses whose access to hay or grass forage is limited.
* Due to the nature of the milling process small traces of grains, processed in the same mill, may be found in the feed.
